Atrocious Abnormality-Echoes of the Rotting
(Comatose Music, 2008)

What we have here is the debut album from Atrocious Abnormality and what a fierce slab
of brutality it is. Combining the rhythmic stomp of US style death metal with hints of
technicality and all out speed, the band manages to create a whirlwind death metal album
filled with brain rattling grooves and jaw dropping guitar riffs. Completed with a high
speed yet powerful drum performance and bestial vocals and you have an album that shows
what US death metal is all about.
The songs are short and to the point and rarely is there every any wasted space within the
songs. Think of Origin mixed with New York style death metal and you'll have the basic
idea of what to expect from this band. When the tempo is kicked into overdrive the band
plays with relentless energy and yet remains incredibly tight. The groove sections are just
as tight and allow the riffing to be a bit more interesting and easy to decipher. The fast
riffs are essentially flurries of notes yet the band manages to add little touches to
keep things memorable. That said the songs on the album do tend to have a similar feel.
That said the entire album is over in a half an hour and with numerous listens I'm sure
each song begins to have more of an identity. One surprise certainly comes in the form
of a cover of The Misfits classic Mommy Can I Go Out and Kill Tonight? The band basically
turns it into a grindcore song and it sounds fantastic.
The performance is spot on and the production is basically perfect for this style of
music allowing the energy to come through yet maintaining a clarity to keep the mix from
turning to mud. If you are a fan of US based death metal, Atrocious Abnormality are a band
that has a lot to offer. From blasts to groove the band handles everything they tackle
masterfully with even a few shred based surprises guitar wise. If you like death metal
you'll like this, plain and simple.

UN: Although Sikfuk started out with a more full fledged lineup over the years it has merged into the current line-up of well, just you. Are you content going the one man band route or are you hoping to put together a full line-up again in the future at least for live performances?
Shitbeard: I am way more than fucking happy being a one man band, should of done this shit years ago as far as im cunt-cerned, well besides my last 2 drummers ending up being total shit spackeled dick stains in the end its way easier to not have to work around other peoples schedules since everyone obviously has a life outside of their music and being able to practise when ever the fuck I feel has actually tightened up the music alot, traveling to shows is way easier without a huge shit beast ass drum set in the vehicle as well, so i've never been happier with the band than i am now!!
UN: Im not sure how anal you are (no pun intended), but using the drum programming must allow you to have control over every facet of what you are doing. With a drummer there may be cases when theyll want to play something different than what you envisioned when penning the riffs. Is it easier to keep the songs as close to how you originally planned them using drum programming?
Tardgrinder: Yeah its easier cuz everything goes as how ever the fuck i decide it goes and once its programmed the cyber tard never fucks up so that helps out as well, to be honest the drummer for the "teabagged at birth" cd (even though today i thin he is a peice of donkey shit) i had confidence in what he wrote behind my riffs so that all worked out well i just let him do up whatever the fuck he wanted and i was happy with it all, my 1st drummer was a fucking reck ass retard half the time with timing, changes, tempo and sometimes id have to completely change a fucking riff to fit whatever bullshit garbage he was playing. would have prefered a drum machine over him in a fucking asshole pucker. but like i said earlier I feel way tighter than ever as a band and I guess since i decide every aspect of the music thats why shit is falling into place so well for me.
UN: Ive always wondered about this. Was it awkward at first to play gigs when it was just you up there? You see pictures of you, Putrid Pile and some of the other one man bands and it looks like it might be awfully lonely up on stage!
Nikfuk: Nah I didn't give a fuck I just drank a shit load of beers and rubbed out and spewed the cyber ass tardgrind the best i could!! kind of a good feeling knowing the drums wont fuck up or fall off time or bitch they cant hear the guitar, and not having to help out setting up and taking down drums is the fucking shit!!
UN: You recently signed with Comatose Music. Are you excited to be working with the label? They have released some killer music and as far as underground death metal goes they are one of the best labels going right now.
Shitbeard: Yeah man I'm happier than a shit covered dick to be working with comatose, he offered me a great ass deal and seems really excited to be releasing my next disc so i cant fucking wait to get this done and on the muthafuking streets!! and i totally agree with you in that comatose being one of the best lables in the death metal underground right now and comatose was my 1st choice in who i wanted to release my next cd as well so all worked out fucking bad as fuck!!
UN: Have you started recording Shitfisted Superman yet? I know the three song demo has been released. Will the material on the full album be along the same lines as they first three songs?
Tardgrinder: Haven't started recording for the actual full length yet, probably do that shit up in march and or april. the rest of the cd should be along the same lines as the 3 song demo that is posted but in the couple songs ive written since more random ass bizarro shit has been added to that style as well so the demo is just a general idea but it wont all sound the same as those 3 songs for sure!!
UN: The artwork for the upcoming album definitely seems to be much more cartoon inspired. Obviously with the Super Man theme it was bound to be comic book like in some ways. Who drew the artwork for the album? It definitely shows Super Man in a way we have never seen before!
Nikfuk: Lou Rusconi did the artwork for the next disc, yeah i gave him the concept and idea of having it look like a comic book cover and i think he did a great fucking job, i actually read superman comics so this is just my fucked up perv ass styled twist on his ass!! gonna have Lou draw up a pic for every song title as well and have all those pics in the cd booklet to almost have it seem like a mini-comic. with having him draw pics to shit like "brushing her teeth with my white castle shit dick" and "herpes infested tampon boot" i think the end result will be funny as fuck and pretty bad ass.
UN: Are there any plans to throw the new logo on a t-shirt? Sure a blue shirt wouldnt be very metal but there is no denying that the logo would look absolutely killer on a shirt. It would probably sell like hotcakes.
Shitbeard: Yeah i already had that idea of the SF symbol on the front of the shirt then the superman styled sikfuk logo on the back, comatose wants do the shit up too so we both might be pressing sum up in the near future, but yeah i might do a blue shirt or 2 for shits for me but id do the rest on black to appease the "metal" in us all.
UN: Obviously humor is a big part of the band. Do you think the bands that tend to take death metal overly seriously are somewhat missing the point? You can keep the music lethal but the grim faces and clutching imaginary oranges photos can all just be a bit too ridiculous.
Tardgrinder: Yeah taking it super fucking serious and trying to looked pissed off or evil as fuck just aint me and aint how the fuck i do, if thats what others want to do thats cool i aint gonna shit on their nutbags about it but my music is just me being me, im just a sarcastic shitlippin bizarro drinking assclown who likes to have a good time, how i am on stage, at shows or how you think I might be from talking to me on tardspace or what you think from my cds is no fucking act. its just how the fuck i do.
UN: It seems like you mainly just play shows every now and again. Have you ever thought about putting together a more full fledged tour or is that something you really arent interested in? It seems bands these days just tour to sell product and pump out garbage albums every year to allow them to tour.
Nikfuk: would be good ass shit to have a sick ass tour set up but the shit holding me back is i got a full time job i gotta hold down cuz tardgrind dont pay the fucking bills and i got family thats important as fuck to me that i need to be around alot for. hoping to do a mini-tour after i get my next cd out and if i could get better guarantees out of promotors id be way more willing to be on the road alot, alot of fucks in the scene wanna book you and promise you money then when the times comes have sum weak ass excuse why they cant pay you or when i hit them up a couple of weeks b4 the show to be sure i have a "guarantee" like they said from the get go it sometimes turns into "Hope" that the show does good to "hope" they can pay me and i cant afford to run around on the US on sum shit stains hopes.
UN: What are your thoughts on the current underground death metal scene? Do you miss the days of demo tapes and fliers? It seems like the internet has changed everything the most and for most things I would say for the better. While a handwritten letter is cool it used to take months to get back interviews while email is much quicker.
Shitbeard: Not sure what my thoughts are on the current scene, sum of the shit coming out is bad as fuck and some of it is still just a unoriginal pile of horse shit, but im happy with it and i think its bigger and better than it ever has been and the scene owes alot of it to the internet, shit like myspace allows way easier access for people to find out about the music and its alot eaiser for the bands to promote their music to death metal fans just by adding people that are into the style of music and posting bullitens and shit like that, as lame as it may seem to sum it helps out a fucking shit fuck assload!! i dont miss the old days of demo tapes and fliers, it was so hard to get the name out back in 2002 when sikfuk started and to book shows compared to now, shit i can get signed to record labels now online instead of having to press up a assload of cdrs and send them out and shit. so obvioulsy im happy as fuck with this tardspace internet shit!! thx for the interview man, supp
