Pink Eye
Directed by James Tucker
Halo Eight
Horror films and insane asylums sem to go hand in hand. This sets the stage for the beginning
of Pink Eye, a low budget yet well acted and shot film. The gore is plentiful and the plot
surprisingly solid. There are definitely many cringe worthy moments and if self-mutilation gets
under your skin, this one will have your stomach in knots.
The patients in the insane asylum are beginning to kill themselves in graphic and bizarre
ways. As the plot unfolds you learn of a particular patient that is deformed and quite
troubled. The patient, named Edgar due to the fact that he quotes Edgar Allen Poe,
escapes from his cell and things really begin to hit the fan after he sets all of the other
patients free.
Orderlies in the hospital suspect that something is not quite right with the patients on
the particular floor where the bloodshed is occuring. They discover that there is a
secret program going on testing PCP laced with other drugs as a seditive which in
turn is making the patients lose their minds even futher.
After Edgar escapes the asylum he begins to kill whoever crosses his path before
finally coming across a house in the country where he kidnaps a woman out
looking for her lost daughter. The conclusion of the film brings Edgar and the woman
back to the asylum for a fitting and very nihilistic ending.
Pacing wise the story has a few lulls throughout the movie and the fact that the film
takes place mostly during the day does take away some of the creepiness. That
said the movie is still quite solid and much better than your average low budget
horror film.
