Oranges: Revenge of the Eggplant
Directed by Mike Stoklasa
Fat Cat DVD/ Tempe DVD
If the title doesn't make it clear right off the bat, let me reiterate that this is a silly movie. If you expect a movie about talking fruit and vegetables to be serious, well, you are pretty much an idiot. If you take the humor of South Park, mixed in some social commentary and wrapped it up with a climax involving zombie fruit, killer sunflowers and a secret military tank you would know basically what to expect. Sure it is every bit as ridiculous as it sounds but there is something incredibly hilarious about seeing fruit being shot or blown up in graphic detail.
The story revolves around Professor Sunkist, an elderly racist scientist who sometimes does work for the government. When a secret military tank is stolen it is traced to the university where Sunkist teaches. Sunkist questions his students in a bumbling manner that yields no results. Being that he is a racist or fruitiest as they say in the film, he of course suspects an apple behind the crime to hilarious effect. The evil Dr. Eggplant escapes from prison and is out for revenge against the Professor. He sneaks onto campus and plots his revenge to happen at the upcoming science fair.
The movie is done quite well and could only have been improved with animated mouths. The sets are well built and the movie looks fantastic. Due to the movie being shot indoors the lighting is always consistent and the colors are bright and vibrant which is important as youll be seeing a lot of red, yellow and orange.
For as ridiculous as this1 movie is, it is actually quite entertainment and is incredibly hilarious at times. If you enjoy quirky comedies than Oranges: Revenge of The Eggplant is right up your alley.
