Kill Them and Eat Them

Brain Damage Films
There are times when a movie can rise above its meager budget and really hit the mark. Kill Them and Eat Them is definitely one of those cases. Calling this a micro-budget film would be an understatement but through zany characters, comedy and over the gore the film really works.
At the core of the film this is about genetic engineering which in turn produces mutants who have a thirst for blood. Two friends searching for a missing friend stumble upon the abandoned factory where the experiments are happening. Both are abducted and used for experimentation. There is a slight Re-Animator feel to the movie although it is far removed plot wise. Two agents from The Company learn of a severed hand found in a park. Dr. Gore, who is conducting the experiments, is a previous employee of The Company who the pair of agents begin to investigate. It turns out that Dr. Gore isnt the madman after all and it is his sidekick who is creating the mutant cannibals.
The comedic element is definitely one of the films strongest elements. The scene with one of the mutants going grocery shopping is particularly hilarious as is the scene where the sidekick is complaining to the mutants during their playtime.
The acting is pretty much spot ion which is surprising given the budget. The two doctors are played well with just enough wacky evil genius thrown in to get the perfect comedic edge. The same goes for the two agents. The performances are somewhat tongue in cheek but never to the point of taking away from the movie.
Video wise, the film is clear but still has that shot on video look. The full frame aspect ratio doesn't do the film any favors but excellent editing keeps things moving quickly. There are certainly worse looking films out there and a lack of any sort of grain is commendable.
Kill Them and Eat Them is an interesting and odd movie that transcends its lack of budget and provides solid entertainment for 90 minutes of your life.
