Destruction Kings
Directed by Chris Seaver
Splatter Rampage/Tempe Video
Ridiculous doesn't even begin to describe Destruction Kings, a film that is filled with off color humor, quirky characters, bloodshed and a well written and hilarious script. What the movie lacks in budget it more than makes up for it in laughs. If this movie doesn't have you in stitches, what the hell is wrong with you?
Much like The Dead Next Door, Destruction Kings is a horror film made for horror fans by horror fans. Try saying that three times fast! It looks low budget but the energy level is high and this is a cast and crew into what they are doing. So despite a meager budget, the film succeeds in being entertaining, which is most important when you get right down to it.
Mr. Bonejack and Teen Ape team up with a new partner to look into the disappearance of local strippers. It turns out that Dracula, Wolfman, and Funkenstein are behind the disappearances and are after an amulet. It borrows a bit from The Monster Squad complete with Dracula busting out the line "Give me the amulet you bitch!" This is of course a classic line from The Monster Squad, which you knew already Im sure.
The story is rounded out with a ridiculous amount of crazy characters. The two scientists for the PIA are ridiculous add even more hilarious moments to the film. Three dorky teenagers help Teen Ape and Mr. Bonejack track down the monsters leading to a bizarre and hilarious climax.
What makes the film work is the humor. Its the type of humor that some people get and some people dont. This is right up my alley and if you like off color humor with a perverse edge this is definitely for you. Just don't watch the movie with Grandma, she may just have a heart attack or be strangely aroused which would be even worse.
The movie is shot in full frame and while it is shot on video the picture quality is still quite good. While being shot on video might not be a look that is very cinematic the director makes it work.
The team behind Destruction Kings manages to take a no budget film and make it work. The film is hilarious; blood soaked and has an energy sorely missing from most low budget movies. It's the same energy that made the Troma classics so memorable.
Order Destruction Kings Here!
