Crimson
Directed by Richard Poche
Poche Pictures
While slasher films and zombie films are common when it comes to no-budget horror, vampires aren't quite as common. Crimson isn't your typical vampire themed movie, though the low budget does somewhat hamper the effectiveness of the film. It's entertaining and looks pretty good and at the very least it has an interesting angle plot wise.
The story revolves around four nursing students, one of which happens to be trying to kick a pill addiction of some sorts. When the girls head out to a party they stumble upon their roommate trying to buy pills. On the way back to their dorm, they find a bloodied woman that they bring with them to help. Unbeknownst to the girls but known to the viewer is that the bloodied woman is on the run from a pair of vampires.
The all female element of the story is cool and it gives the movie a unique feel. The acting is solid although some of the action is a bit hit or miss I would say. The fighting just isn't all that convincing. The make up effects also leave a bit to be desired although it doesn't hurt the film. Like I said earlier the acting is quite solid with the dialog being presented in a believable manner. Low budget horror has some cringe worthy acting at times, but this movie certainly is not one of those moments.
The story isn't all that complicated and the film is a bit short although it is effective. The zero budget might not be the best way to try and make this story though. The director shows that he has talent and with a bigger budget I think he could make a really effective vampire film.
This is an entertaining little vampire movie with a cast that is quite easy on the eyes. It isn't perfect but shows a lot of potential for the director.
