Corpsefucking Art-Splatter Deluxe
(Forever Underground, 2003)

CFA is a band whose name I’ve known since when I first started getting into the more underground side of metal and the funny thing is that this cd is the first time I’ve actually heard their music. To say that I am impressed would be a definite understatement. CFA play some of the most vicious and heavy death metal influenced grindcore I have ever heard. They even add in some humor with makes it an even more enjoyable listen.
I would almost say that you could compare this band to Mortician. The riffing itself is similar every now and then, but it’s actually a bit more involved then Mortician. The main things that reminds me of Mortician are the vocals and the blast beat filled drumming. The beyond guttural vocals are very similar to those heard in Mortician but the singer in this band has more clarity and the vocals are much louder in the mix. So essentially what you can expect from this band is simple straight forward riffing, guttural vocal roars, and enough blasting to peel pant from your walls. It’s a simple formula that makes for one hell of a listen.
The production on this one surprised me quite a bit. It’s possibly one of the clearest productions I’ve heard from a band in this style. The guitar tone is heavy, and very clear. A lot of bands playing music like this seem to mix the guitars a bit too low and things get lost when the blasting starts. You won’t run into that problem with this production. No matter the tempo, everything rings through. I’m also really impressed with the drum sound. They aren’t overly natural sounding, but the bass drums are very punchy and the drums sound very tight overall. It’s a very impressive production, especially when you consider a band like this wouldn’t have much of a budget.
If you are into bands like Mortician, Last Days of Humanity, and any of the many grindcore influenced death metal bands out there, you’ll definitely be able to get into Splatter Deluxe. Chances are you’ve already heard of this band before, don’t wait any longer to check them out if you have been.

UN: CFA has been together in one form another since 1994. Has the bands sound changed at all over the years? I read that when the band was first started it was more along the lines of Immolation or Incantation. What prompted the change to a more brutal style of grindcore influenced death metal?
Andrea: Corpsefucking Art’s evolution was simply driven by our musical likes, that’s why our brutal death metal has some grindcore influence as you say. It makes our songs more straightforward and destructive, I never liked being in-between.
UN: Where exactly did the band name come from? One thing is for certain the first time you hear the name you’ll never forget it. Have you guys ever ran into any trouble because of the name?
Andrea: Corpsefucking Art is the making-of of a German splatter movie called “Nekromantik”. It’s the story of a girl murdering her boyfriend in order to run away with her dead lover. It shows scenes of necrophilia and body defilement. Corpsefucking Art shows all the details about the setup and filming of the most gory scenes, it’s just too funny to watch the actors laughing their arses off while filming such exceptionally violent movies. As to getting in trouble because of the name, it never happened.
UN: While on the subject of previous bands, have you ever thought of compiling all of the older demos onto one cd? Possibly as a retrospective of what happened before Corpsefucking Art? Any plans to re-release the CFA demos on disc?
Andrea: We had received an offer by American label Burning Dogma, but instead the collection will be out on my label Despise The Sun Records, I just wanted to work on it by myself.
UN: I know it’s been awhile, but how did the idea for a split with Goretrade come about? I actually just received the new Goretrade cd a few weeks ago and it’s some of the most sick and twisted death metal I’ve heard in a while. Are you guys big fans of Goretrade? Is the split still in print?
Andrea: Initially, Dripping were supposed to split with us, but they didn’t have any songs ready for the release, therefore we chose Goretrade, a great band we found by chance on the internet. We were enthusiastic about the mp3 we had heard and proved ourselves right. Goretrade are no doubt the pride of the underground like the whole Colombian brutal death metal scene. The split came out very well and was pressed 3 times on cd through United Guttural and once on tape through Dark Angel Records from Thailand. It will be pressed again.
UN: How did Forever Underground come into the picture? Did they contact you, or were you guys shopping around for labels? Are you guys happy with the work FU has done for the band?
Andrea: Forever Underground contacted us, as they were interested in issuing our full-length recording. At the time we had received several offers and we figured the one by Bill was the most convenient. The cd is a good record but there were countless problems which dramatically delayed its release, we are not entirely satisfied.
UN: Now onto Splatter Deluxe, now that the album has been out for awhile how has the response been so far? Do you think that it’s the best material the band has released so far? I think it’s one of the best albums I’ve heard in quite sometime.
Andrea: Splatter Deluxe seemed to have an excellent response, it has already been repressed and has sold around 2000 copies so far. We are reading words in favor of it from all around the world and it’s being requested by all our fans. You’re correct, it’s the best cd we ever made.
UN: Was there a long delay between when the album was recorded and when it was released? I read that it was recorded in 2002, but I just received a copy of the disc for review.
Andrea: As I previously said, Forever Underground delayed the release for a long time, thats’s why we are not satisfied with the way they worked. Bill had a lot of trouble, but slowly we gained some satisfaction.
UN: Splatter Deluxe was recorded with a session vocalist, do you guys finally have a new vocalist in the line-up? How has he been working out?
Andrea: Yes, now Sasà is our vocalist and he’s working things out exceptionally. His voice and way to hold the stage are powerful, you will listen to him on our next studio release.
UN: Do you think the humorous side of the band makes you stand out more within the scene? Some bands just seem to take things far too seriously, especially when you read the lyrics it’s hard to take some of it seriously. Do some people just not get the humor sometimes?
Andrea: Humour is definitely a part of me, I believe taking things too seriously binds you to stale positions. It’s not just a matter of being different, I just refuse all senseless lyrics, random gore terms or claims of being better than others. Brutal death metal is spawning bands with no reason to exist, they are losing the main intent of the genre, i.e. the strong denial of human conformity and ignorance.
UN: Does it bother you guys when people compare you to Mortician? I would definitely say that there are similarities, but this is one of those cases where a band influenced by a band has become better then that band. Mortician’s last few records really haven’t been up to par if you ask me. Is it safe to say you guys are fans?
Andrea: Actually our split cd really sounds close to Mortician but I wouldn’t call that a bad thing. You can notice the differences by listening to the riffs and structure of the songs, especially on the Mortician cover itself, where we modeled the riffs according to our personal style, turning them into something more clean and mathematical. “Hacked Up For Barbecue” and “Chainsaw Dismemberment” are no doubt two masterpieces, it is a honor to be compared to Mortician.
UN: I was curious to ask what prompted the cover of Oblivious to Evil? It’s a damn good song, but Deicide is one of the last bands I probably would have expected you guys to cover. Are you guys happy with how the cover turned out?
Andrea: Deicide have always been one of my favorite bands, I love their first two albums and the song “Oblivious to Evil” is one I always wanted to record so that it would sound the way I like. The result is completely satisfactory but I would rather have called it “Oblivious to Cake”, maybe Benton would have liked a slice of that cake heheheh.
UN: How would you rate the scene in Italy? I have to be honest and say that I’m not entirely familiar with that many bands from the area. Essentially, just you guys, Cripple Bastards, Mind Snare, Crunch and maybe a few more. Is the scene supportive of this style of music? Any bands you’d recommend people to check out?
Andrea: There are some interesting bands in Italy besides the ones you mentioned. Take notes on these: Hour of Penance, Nefas, Mincer, Bowel Stew, Gorefuck and my side project Bomberos. These are the bands I most value and consider the greatest in Italy, too bad there’s also a lot of rubbish: apparently brutal death metal seems to be in fashion right now.
UN: Tell us about The Art of Fucking Corpse? When can we expect the album to see the light of day? Does it differ in anyway from Splatter Deluxe? How did Despise the Sun come into the picture? I honestly have never even heard of the label.
Andrea: The album is being pressed already and it compiles all of the material released before the split cd, 23 songs for a total of 61 minutes, a retrospective which spans across the first ten years of Corpsefucking Art’s evolution. Clearly, Despise The Sun Records is just entering the underground circuit and this is its first release. Right now I’m working on the second cd, from a very interesting Indonesian band called Asphyxiate. For furter information visit www.despisethesunrecords.too.it
UN: What do you think CFA offers that no other band within the underground does? What would make someone pick up a CFA album over anything else they see on the shelf?
Andrea: Certainly Corpsefucking Art’s music is brutal and straightforward with quite a personal sound, but I believe its innovation must be found in its contents. We must not forget that music is an expression of the musicians themselves, I think it’s fundamental to cover concrete issues besides the music. Our surrealistic irony is the key to the true spirit of Corpsefucking Art, we oppose to this modern society of mental degradation.
