Adrenicide-Drunk With Power
(Thrashard Records, 2006)

I've been a huge fan of thrash and crossover for a long time now and while it inst common that a new band comes along that sounds like they could have been around in 1988, it certainly is a nice surprise. Adrenicide have a strong crossover sound that draws mainly from DRI during their days when they first starting getting metallic in sound. I'm not a fan of throwing out the description old school, but it certainly fits with Adrenicide.
If you couldn't have guessed this is what you would call a fast album. The riffing is fast and sharp with a perfect combination of hardcore intensity and thrash metal chops. This inst what you would consider complicated, but I wouldn't consider it overly simplistic either. The vocals are definitely old school flavored and while they do have a few weak moments I really enjoy the vocal approach. It's nice to see a band playing thrash and keeping the original vocal style instead of throwing in growling or a black metal styled rasp.
What I really like is the fact that the band has stayed very true to the crossover genre. You wont find any blast beats or death metal vocals on here, just straight ahead thrash with killers riffs and a no nonsense vocal approach. If you are into DRI, MOD, or Cryptic Slaughter this one is definitely for you.

UN: Is there any exciting stories about how the band came to be or would you say it came together like most bands out there? Did you guys share a love for crossover and thrash and want to start a band to play something in that style?
Nuno: I can't really tell for sure how it all happened but I remember seeing an advert on a guitar shop window that said: guitar player needed, influences: Agnostic Front, Voivod, Cryptic Slaughter and there was the D.R.I. skanker logo drawn onto it. I call the number met the guy (Neil) and that was it. We started jamin' at first nothing serious, but than a friend of ours told us we could do something more with it so we formed Adrenicide. I mean that's all really fuckin' weird coz we probably are the only two fuckers that love this kind of music in the whole fuckin' town the rest is all Emo & Nu-fuckin'-Metal. It was fate mate.
UN: Was it important for you guys to keep an old school sounding vocal approach? There are a lot of bands that play a thrash influenced style these days but use almost a black metal style vocal approach with some using growling as well.
Nuno: The vocals you ear on our music its Neils natural voice. If you come see us jamin' you'll see that that's just the way our music comes along. A lot of the thrash & Hardcore bands in these days they just take it to fuckin' serious. We don't like big sounding fuckin' records we like things plain and simple no big distortions and shit. I mean we even use shit amps to make it more real. The new bands vocal style all sound the fuckin'-same and you can't understand fuck all. We are still stuck in an 80's Crossover-time wrap that's all I can say. Other bands can do whatever they want with their music.
UN: What can you tell us about Natural Born Thrashers? Do you guys have a release date set yet or have any of the material recorded yet for the album?
Nuno: The release for "Natural Born Thrashers" is set to late 2008 but no date is set yet. We been jamin' and working with a couple of songs we have for the album but can't tell you much more than that for now except that its going to be fuckin' sick mate. And fast to.
UN: I noticed on your Myspace page you have songs for a release called Raging Full On but I couldn't find any information about the release. Was it an EP release? Is it available anywhere other than online?
Nuno: Some of our releases been a bit late due to founds and shit like that. "Raging Full On" is a full length album that will be released on Feb. 2008 but was to be out on Nov. 2007 which is a bit fucked up for us. So hopefully we get things back on track in the future. R.F.O. is a bit more Hardcore Punk not so thrashy like D.W.P. but still furious and heavy.
UN: Would you say that there is a fairly strong scene in the UK when it comes to thrash and crossover? While I'm not familiar with many bands what I have heard has been quite good. Are there any bands from the UK you would recommend for people to check out?
Nuno: Not really you may ear a lot of rumors about the Thrash scene in England but mate not true. Don't get me wrong there are some great fuckin' bands in England at the moment, Gamma Bomb, Pitiful Reign, Mutant, SSS, Rager, but there's no one to support. Its not like in the old days when in your first gig you played for 300 and even 400 people which was great I think. In Germany, Italy, Greece is far better trust meI can honestly tell you that we've sold more albums in America, Germany & Indonesia than in our own home town.
UN: Would you agree that DRI was a big influence on the Adrenicide sound? What other bands in particular would you say helped to form the bands sound?
Nuno: The First song we've ever wrote as been re-recorded on "Drunk with Power" album & its called: "Little Jimmy" when we first listen to it after recording it we realized that it did sounded a bit like D.R.I. and we loved it but that's just how our music sounds naturally, we didn't make it happen or anything. But yes I guess that they are a big influence on us, also bands like The Crumbsuckers, S.O.D. & even Voivod. Nothing to be ashamed of
UN: Is being original something you guys even worry about? When you are playing an older style of music being innovative would certainly be hard to do and than I guess you wouldn't really be paying tribute to the older bands if you changed the sound.
Nuno: I'm an old school Thrash & Crossover freak, we both are always been and when I met Neil I knew we're going to play some old shit. He likes pretty much the same bands & albums as I do but we didn't really think ok we gonna sound like this or that band, we just sit down & write whatever we feel like. It all comes from the heart, pure and simply mate. We don't really give a fuck if people like our sound we just do what we do & thats what we love doin'. We not original at all I guess, but we surely are different in sound than the other bands in England at present.
UN: I didn't notice any tour dates or upcoming shows listed online. Are you guys mainly a studio project or do you play live? I wasn't sure if you had a complete line-up as I've only seen band pictures with the two of you.
Nuno: No, we not a studio band at all, we just didn't find the right guy for Adrenicide so far that's all. The crossover scene in England is very poor, I think we knew from day one that was going to take us a long time before we find the right person or if we're going to find anyone at all. So we figured we keep going just the 2 of us 'til the time comes. For us the music must come first. Right?
UN: I was curious to ask about Thrashard Records. Is this a label run by the band that you use to release Adrenicide material? If this is the case, any thoughts on bringing out other bands material or compilations?
Nuno: When we first started out Adrenicide we knew that it wasn't going to be easy to get things done our way or even find a full line up for the band, so when we released the album "All Went Black" we've decided to start our own record label Trashard Records but not for our own releases only we been lookin around for Crossover bands that keep it true. Its just a question of time before we sign some band here and there one we really like is a band from America called: Drencroms you should check 'em out.
UN: What would you say are the top 10 crossover albums of all time? Are there any old crossover bands that you feel don't get the attention that they deserve? Personally I don't think people talk nearly enough about Excel.
Nuno: You damn right mate people these days only listen to what is trendy or fairly known, the only Crossover band anyone knows well is D.R.I. and although its definitely one of my favorite bands of all times theres other great fuckin' bands like: Ludichrist, Dead Brain Cells, Ratos de Porao, Virus, Attitude Adjustment, Voivod, The Crumbsuckers, Millions of Dead Cops and so on that are really fuckin' bad ass.
